I look at Point & Shoot cams and they flat out list their zoom capabilities like “10x optical zoom”. SLR lenses list their mm. What do the mm mean for the lens, and how do I tell how far they will zoom?

Can some DSLR cameras accept processing film, like what you would use in a normal SLR type camera?

I was just curious if there are some DSLR cameras that accept film that you can then bring to a pharmacist etc. to get developed (Like an SLR)
Or are they all simply just cameras where you take the photo and then it’s placed onto a memory card inside it?

I might want to get a camera for the holidays because mine sucks and its all scratched and i want a nice one. less than 200$ and not hp. HP is what i have right now and i dont like it. So what kind of camera do you have and on a scale from 1 to 10 what do you rate it? Not a big one just like a fit in the pocket camera. If you can maybe add a photo if its still available but you dont have to.

I made a stupid mistake and went through it is this a red light camera or something else and will I get caught it was facing to the side like in this picture.

How do I go about doing this with digital cameras? I have a regular film camera (Pentax k1000), But I would really like to avoid the hassle of processing infrared film. I also would rather not send out my SLR camera and have it altered to an infrared camera because it is the only one I use. Is there any (gasp) photo editing software that can change your photos to infrared?
I would like to get a digital SLR camera, any suggestions?

What is the big difference between typical digital cameras (Nikon D200) and other cameras like sony xcd 910?

The price is comparable, but the sony only has like 2 Mpix while the Nikon is 10MPix. They are two different TYPES of cameras, but they are both ccd cameras. The sony can be controlled by computer- is that all it is? I need a digital camera expert here.

Ok, I need someone to really look at the cameras. They are two completely different types. The nikon is one that you would use for typical photography while the sony is one you connect to a computer and do experiments with. I am wondering if I can do experiments with the Nikon. I want to know why the Sony is so expensive when it only has 1/10th of the pixels.
So if I am just doing an experiment with 2 images, are there any drawbacks with the Nikon or do I just get the benefit of 10Mpix?
Can any DSLR camera take pictures like these?

Without prior problems, my Sony camera when powered up immediately goes to the 12X zoom. It will only go down to the 6.2X zoom so I can not take closeups. In other words, it can not be brought down to the 1X zone. Anybody else had this problem or have any suggestions? It has worked beautifully up to this time, and I’m on vacation with a malfunctioning camera and not a happy camper.
I want to buy Canon Digital Rebel XTi, and I would like firsthand experiences on whether it is high quality?

I am 14 and technically I am an amateur photographer. Recently someone let me see their camera, and after told me what it was, the Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I really like it, and, though I love my current camera, I think point-and-click might not suit me anymore. I was wondering first: whether this is suitable for my age—I would probably have my parents chip in a bit, and second: I’d like some firsthand experiences on whether it’s good? Thanks so much!

I’m planning to buy a new camera in replacement with my older one (Canon A470). Is there a good camera out there that’s quite similar to a DSLR like the Canon SX20IS? I don’t want to spend more than $400. I just want a good and reasonable camera to take good quality pictures and is good with Macro mode. Any suggestions? thank you in advance.
