Where can I get a good remote for my camera?

I have a Canon XS. I purchased the remote about 3 months ago, and I really haven’t used it very much at all. Maybe for 100 photos at the very most.
Last night, I was taking some pictures using it, with bulb mode. That’s when my remote decided not to work anymore. It will get the camera to focus, but when I press the button, nothing happens.
I don’t make a lot of money, so i can’t afford to keep buying camera accessories. Where can I get a good one for cheap?
